EU AI Act for Teams
What the EU AI Act means for the people who use and build AI at work. Find out whether your company counts as a provider or a deployer, sort your AI tools into the Act's four risk levels, spot the nine practices that are banned, write the notices people must see, plan the duties for a high-risk tool, and build the AI literacy plan the Act asks for. Hands-on, with a made-up company's files. The rules were amended in 2026 (the AI Omnibus); facts checked 17-Oct-2026. Educational, not legal advice.
"We know which of our AI tools the Act covers, how risky each one is, what we must tell people, and what we are doing to build AI skills, with records to show it"

What the EU AI Act is, and who it touches
The EU AI Act is an EU law about AI systems. It reaches companies outside the EU when their AI is offered or used in the EU, and your duties depend on whether you are the provider or the deployer.
- 2
The four risk levels
The Act sorts AI by what it is used for: unacceptable risk is banned, high risk carries strict duties, transparency risk means telling people, and minimal risk has no specific duties.
- 3
The banned practices
The Act bans nine AI practices outright. A short red-line checklist, asked before any tool is bought or switched on, keeps them out of your company.
- 4
Telling people when AI is involved
Some AI must announce itself. People must know when they are talking with an AI system, and when a video, image or voice of a real-looking person was made by AI.
- 5
High-risk use: what a deployer must do
A deployer of a high-risk AI system has a short list of duties: use it as instructed, keep trained people in charge, watch it, keep its logs and tell the people it affects.
- 6
Your AI literacy plan
The Act asks every provider and deployer to take steps to build the AI skills of the people who use AI for them, and to be able to show what they did. No certificate and no set level are required.
